Manager Alan Devonshire is looking for a “little bit more quality” from his attacking players as Braintree Town look to return to winning ways in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Having hit five in their previous two victories against Southport and Forest Green, the Iron then drew blanks in both of their fixtures against Cambridge United over the festive period.

And Devonshire would like his players to be more clinical with the chances they create when they head to Tamworth tomorrow.

He said: “We have to score goals.

“At the moment we are defending OK, but we just need a little bit more quality when we are going forward.

“That’s what we have been working on without hurting what we are doing at the back.”

Devonshire said he was hoping to bring an attacking midfielder into the club now the January transfer window was open and added that his new target may be in place for the weekend.

He added that he expected further additions as well, but had received no interest from clubs looking to take any of his existing squad so far.

Full-back Sam Habergham was rated as a “doubt” for the trip to Tamworth after limping off with a dead leg at Cambridge on New Year’s Day, while Brad Quniton’s calf problem is set to keep him sidelined and goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt is struggling with an ankle problem.

Devonshire said Nathan Mcdonald would come in for his first start of the season if Naisbitt wasn’t fit.
