Witham Town's hopes of getting their Ryman League division one north fixture against Waltham Abbey on were sunk by a Spa Road pitch inspection early on Saturday morning.

With further heavy rain forecast for later in the day on Saturday, the Witham surface was deemed too wet for play to take place.

The postponement means Witham's next fixture will be their New Year's Day trip to local rivals and division one north leaders Maldon and Tiptree.
