BURNHAM RAMBLERS 0 WITHAM TOWN 2
Tolleshunt D’Arcy Cup
Witham Town got the defence of their Tolleshunt D’Arcy Cup title off to a winning start as goals by Rob Whitnell and Shamir Mullins gave a 2-0 win against Burnham Ramblers.
Witham are the holders and they fielded a mixed team for many reasons, but it was a dull first half with very little goalmouth action.
However, Danny Sambridge, the Witham keeper, did have to make a good save just before half-time to keep it goalless at the break.
The game did liven up in the second half, though, and Witham took the lead in the 50th minute when Whitnell scored with a low shot after some good build-up play.
Ramblers keeper Lukecos Joseph saved well from Danny Emmanuel as Witham stayed on top for most of the second half, but they couldn’t add to their score until the 86th minute.
Mullins beat Joseph to a throughball and lobbed the ball in from the edge of the area to make sure Witham advanced into the next round.
