Braintree Town climbed out of the Blue Square Bet Premier relegation zone with an impressive display against one of the league’s promotion favourites.

The Iron built on their win at Southport in their previous outing to beat fourth-placed Forest Green Rovers 3-1 at the Amlin Stadium with goals by Sean Marks, Luke Daley and Kenny Davis.

Braintree assistant manager Keith Rowland said: “From start to finish, I thought we were worthy winners.

“We set our stall out early and gave them a really good game.

“We played at a high tempo as we had two boys out wide who are quick and we wanted to use them, but Sean Marks was a handful all night and the players all around him worked hard.

“I thought we looked strong right the way down the middle from the centre-halves, through the midfield and the lads up front.”

The only negative for Braintree was the sending off of Ryan Peters for two bookable offences in the second half.
