Emeka's strike proves the difference as Witham deny Romford festive cheer
10:52am Sunday 16th December 2012 in Sport By Simon Spurgeon
The striker of Christmas present had the edge over the striker of Christmas past as Witham ensured there would be no early festive cheer for Romford at Spa Road.
Billy Hunt was busy finding the back of the net for Witham in the Essex Senior League 12 months ago, but he found himself on the opposing side in this Ryman League division one north clash.
It is only a matter of weeks since the former Town hitman departed Spa Road, but there was no happy return as his replacement showed his clinical edge in a 1-0 victory.
Emeka Onwubiko’s first-half goal proved the difference between two sides with play-off ambitions as Witham recorded their sixth win from their last eight league games.
Town manager Garry Kimble said: “We knew what to expect from Billy (Hunt) up front, but I thought our centre halves, Richard Manning and Tom Devaux, were outstanding.
“It wasn’t nice for Billy that he had to come back so soon after leaving us, but it’s all about the players who are here now and I thought Emeka was the difference on the day.”
