Garry Kimble is happy to be on the defensive to turn his team’s Ryman League fortunes around.

The Witham Town manager changed the way his team lined-up last weekend after a string of disappointing results in division one north and was pleased to see a more robust display in their 2-1 win against Waltham Forest.

Kimble said: “I decided to play a fresh system on Saturday and went with a 4-2-3-1 line-up. We had been getting caught out too much on the counter-attack in recent games and I wanted more cover in front of the back four.

“It worked well with the two players screening the back line.

“We hadn’t been protecting enough at the back and perhaps that was a bit of naivety on my part, but we proved very hard to break down on Saturday.

“It is a learning process for me at this level as well as for the players, but I thought it was a change that needed to be made for the good of the football club."

Kimble's alterations also worked in midweek as they recorded back-to-back Ryman League division one north victories for only the second time this season with a 1-0 win at Soham Town Rangers.

And they will be hoping to make it three in a row as they host Potters Bar Town at Spa Road on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Kimble said he expected to have a full squad available to choose from.
