Boost for academy plan

The proposed new academies for secondary education in Witham have received support according to the results of questionnaires.

Plans to turn the John Bramston School and The Rickstones School into academies are in the consultation phase.

The plans would see the two schools team up with Greensward College, Hockley, under a single management structure.

Part of the consultation has been to invite parents, staff and students to fill in questionnaires and Mike Barnett, spokesman for the academy proposals, said responses to the questionnaires have been "very positive" from all three schools.

There has been no decision made about new identities for the schools.

Part of the proposal is to develop a new visual identity or brand to show that the three schools are working together under a single management structure.

This could include new school names, uniforms and logos.

Mr Barnett said some ideas have been set out but they are still under consideration and " shortly we shall be writing to parents with proposals."
