For the 54 years that my late wife and I have lived in Braintree, we used any garden gift vouchers we received to buy a collection of standard roses for our front garden – this not only for our pleasure, but also to share with neighbours and passers-by.
Very recently one of Braintree’s neanderthals bravely, and under the cover of darkness, decided to test its strength and virility by trashing half of these, breaking the support posts and bending the roses to the ground, including one we bought to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary.
I really would like to know what joy it received from this action, but as it is unlikely that it can read, I would be grateful if its keeper could encourage it to share this emotion with me and then invite me round to its cage so that I can find the same sort of pleasure by pulling off the heads of its collection of Barbie dolls.
