Once again, the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) is interfering with local affairs.
Not content in delaying the upgrading of the A120, it is now involving itself with the development of the land near the Towerlands centre in Braintree.
EERA is a body set up by the Government in 1998, on instructions from the European Union.
It consists of 102 members – 54 members from local government, nominated by their local council; 16 further members from local government, drawn to reflect political balance; 31 members nominated by stakeholders; and one member from the Broads Authority.
The body as a whole has a huge influence on the lives of everyone.
What moral right have the members of the EERA, some who live up to 100 miles away, to inflict 2,000 new homes on to north-west Braintree?
Local councillors should stand up, be strong and represent the people by whom they were elected.
