This is how Braintree’s town centre looked more than 40 years ago.
Times reader Reginald Garratt, 73, sent in these pictures, which he took in 1964, when he was the manager of Waide Pollard and Sons, which was in Braintree’s High Street, next door to the empty Central Cinema.
Mr Garratt, of Currants Farm Road, Braintree, recalled: “The cinema was in the process of being converted in to the first Tesco supermarket in Braintree.
“The builders invited me in to the premises and on to the roof.
“With my Box Brownie camera, which I still have, I took these photographs, which I am sure will be of interest to your readers.”
