Southend Pier closed today

SOUTHEND Pier will be closed today (Thursday) as engineers position the new £3million cultural centre.

The 200-tonne steel, wood and glass centre will be crane-lifted into position after it was transported from Tilbury Docks down the Thames Estuary.

It is hoped the pier will reopen to the public on Friday.
