A man has died in hospital after being found unconscious in the street in Southend.

Police are investigating and a large cordon is in place in Tylers Avenue following the suspicious death in the early hours of this morning.

The area taped off includes Tylers Avenue, Quebec Avenue and Baltic Avenue near to the job centre.

Officers are guarding the scene with forensic examination teams now in Tylers Avenue carrying out their investigation.

Details of how he became unconscious and what caused his death have not yet been revealed.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called shortly before 3.15am today with reports a man had been found unconscious in Tylers Avenue, Southend.

"He was taken to hospital but sadly died.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding his death, which is being treated as unexplained."

Residents reported seeing ambulances in the area at about 3am this morning.
