POLICE have arrested two men for possession of cocaine and cannabis and a Taser after raiding a property on Canvey.

The officers from Castle Point and Rochford’s community policing team executed a warrant a property in Cherry Close.

When they attended they found a group of people in the house, and a large collection of cocaine and cannabis.

A spokesman for the Castle Point and Rochford community policing team said: “Two adult males were arrested and taken to custody.

“One was arrested for possession with intent to supply of a class A and B drug, as well as a Taser.”

The first man has been released under investigation following the warrant.

The spokesman added: “He has been released under investigation whilst we await the forensics for the drugs and the results of the Taser testing.

“The other was given a conditional caution to attend a drug referral clinic for possession of cocaine and cannabis.”

John Anderson, Castle Point councillor for Canvey Central, said he was happy to hear drugs were being taken off the streets.

He said: “The police are doing sterling work and I have had residents’ report different incidents where they suspect drug dealing has been happening in their area.

“It appears to me that police are not really looking for drug dealers on the streets, they instead are looking for bigger operations.

“It sometimes seems they are doing nothing but instead they are focusing on bigger issues.

“I give Essex Police a ten out of ten.

“It is important that these sorts of things happen and I congratulate them for their great work getting more drugs off the street.

“I have criticised them in the past but with the amount of cuts they have suffered, they are still very much fit for purpose.”

Another man and woman at the address also were given a cannabis warning for a small amount of cannabis in their possession.
