One of music’s most distinctive voices has been brought to life by the return of hit musical Jersey Boys to the Cliffs Pavilion.

Tracing the story of iconic showman Frankie Valli and his band The Four Seasons, the audience were led through decades of the group’s history from their New Jersey roots in the fifties to their induction into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

From the opening bars of the score, the instantly recognisable hits of the supergroup - December, 1963, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, and Walk Like a Man, to name a few – light up the production, and had the crowd singing along too.

Created by writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Ellis, the tale of obscurity, crime, family and fame is narrated by each of The Four Seasons in thick, foul-mouthed Jersey accents, with a myriad of characters from the group’s colourful history making appearances.

Simon Bailey, playing shady Four Seasons founder Tommy Devito, and Lewis Griffiths as longstanding member Nick Massi who bring much of the comic relief to the rollercoaster ride, while Declan Egan as hit-maker Bob Gaudio who provides a breath of fresh air midway through the first act.

It is however Frankie Valli, played by Michael Watson, who inevitably brings the show to life with his masterful adoption of Valli’s characteristically strong head voice, while still managing to convey the singer’s growth from a nervous high schooler to seasoned touring artist.

Nostalgic, gripping, and joyful, you’ll be dancing in the aisles by its finale.
