A 60-year-old man was hit in the back of the head with a metal pole. 

Police are investigating following an incident in Aveley where a man was assaulted with an object, believed to have been a metal pole.

The victim, a man in his 60s, was walking his dogs in the Usk Road area at around 3pm on Monday, May 21 when he was struck round the back of the head.

He was knocked unconscious and left with a large cut to the back.

The victim has told us he did not see who attacked him so has not been able to give a description.

Investigating officer PC Richard Dines, from Grays CID, said: “This was a really nasty attack and left the victim unconscious.

“At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to the motive behind the assault. I appreciate this may cause some concern among people living in the area but we have no reason to believe there is a risk to the wider public.

“The attack happened in the middle of the day in a residential area so I believe someone will have seen something.

“I need anyone who has any information to come forward and contact us.”
