Members of a day centre were able to get up close and personal with a range of reptiles and other animals.

A dozen staff and visitors came to Peaceful Place in Dalys Road, Rochford, for the event, held by R C Exotics of Canvey.

A number of creepy crawlies and reptiles were on show for the members to see, touch and learn about from the team who offered their expert knowledge all about the animals.

The day centre helps people who suffer with young onset dementia between the ages of 40 and 65.

The group also offers support and advice to family members and carers of people who are suffering with the condition which affects 42,000 in the UK alone.

Lyn Smee, admin and fundraising manager for Peaceful Place, was very happy with how the day went.

She said: “We all had the most wonderful afternoon when Richard Smith and Claire Cooke from R C Exotics brought all of their exotic creatures along to the day centre.

“The members and staff had the most amazing handling experience.

“They were all extremely brave and got up close and personal with huge snakes, spiders, lizards, dragons and tortoises to name but a few. It was an absolutely fantastic day.”
