Tuesday (May 15) will see the vocal talents of Joanna Eden come to Annie’s Jazz Club in Southend.

The singing star will be bringing her ‘Embraceable Ella’ show to the jazz club which is held every Tuesday at Thorpe Hall Golf Club.

The show will celebrate the music of Joanna’s vocal hero Ella Fitzgerald. From the throw-away A Tisket A Tasket which brought Ella to fame in the forties with the Chick Webb Orchestra to later songbook album classics like Porter’s Every Time We Say Goodbye and Gershwin’s Someone to Watch Over Me , Joanna mines the rich seam of Ella Fitzgerald’s unrivalled canon with humility, style and obvious deep affection. Joanna has many strings to her bow.

She has supported international stars like Jamie Cullum and The Buena Vista Social Club, headlined at venues from Ronnie Scott’s Club, Pizza Express Jazz Club and the 606 Club to The Elgar Rooms at the Royal Albert Hall.

Sir Michael Parkinson instructed his Radio 2 listeners to “seek her out” while Jamie Cullum describes her as “brilliant!”. Joanna is also a teacher and the force behind the biggest new singing star in the world at the moment - Sam Smith who she taught from the ages of nine to 18.

Catch Joanna at Annie’s Jazz Club on Tuesday at 8pm. Tickets are £16 for non members, £14 for members. www.anniesjazz.co.uk
