PUNK icons the Vibrators are coming to Southend for the first time in what is said to be decades this Friday, to perform at the Venue.

The club next door to the Cricketers Pub in London Road, Westcliff, will also - on the same night - play host to garage punk howlers Jay Vee and the Cardinal Sins, Southend's favourite masked ska-jazz boppers the mighty Platypus; six piece hip hop and rock fusers the Outfit featuring Jeff Turner from Cockney Rejects; plus an after party with DJs mixing punk/ska/psychobilly until 2am.

The Vibrators (Automatic Lover/Baby Baby/Amphetamine Blue) were founded in 1976 by Ian 'Knox' Carnochan, bassist Pat Collier, guitarist John Ellis, and drummer John 'Eddie' Edwards.

They first came to public notice at the 100 Club, London, when they backed Chris Spedding. On Spedding's recommendation, Mickie Most signed them to his label RAK Records. Most produced their first single, We Vibrate.

The band also backed Spedding on his single, Pogo Dancing.

The Vibrators went on to record multiple sessions for John Peel at BBC Radio 1 in across the years.

They were one of the pioneering punk bands that played at London's Roxy Club and headlined in January 1977, supported by The Drones.

In March 1977 the band supported Iggy Pop on his British tour.

The band has continued to play and is still touring and recording today.

Advanced tickets are available from £10 from ticketsource.co.uk/spunkclub.

The night kicks off from 7:30pm until 2am.
