RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on a proposal to move a post office before a consultation closes next week.

Stanford-le-Hope Post Office is based at 27 Corringham Road, but plans are being put in place to move it to 113 Corringham Road.

If the proposal goes ahead, the post office would be situated within the Rainbow Store.

The Rainbow Store is owned by the same people who run the Post Office, and they have claimed by combining the businesses, both will be able to survive.

The consultation is running until Tuesday, April 24.

It asks for views on a number of issues, including the new site’s suitability and ease of access.

It also asks for any concerns regarding the proposed move or if there is anything the post office can do to make the transition smoother.

The consultation opened on March 9, and residents are now being urged to voice their views before any decision is finalised.

A post office spokesman said: “We are proposing to move this branch to Rainbow Stores, 113 Corringham Road, Stanford Le Hope, SS17 0BA.

“As you will be aware, our partners and agents operate sub post office branches alongside their private retail business, and it is important that they make the very best use of their resources to ensure future sustainability of the service.

“An opportunity has arisen for our franchise partner to incorporate Post Office services into their other local premises nearby.

“Our partner firmly believes that the move will help safeguard the viability of their business, including the Post Office service.”
