A residential street has been closed since yesterday evening after a serious police incident.

Essex Police have cordoned off Gordon Road, Southend, since about 6pm last night.

One resident who lives in the street said he had to park streets away from his house because officers are not letting vehicles in or out of the road.

It is unknown at this stage if it is connected to the serious incident in Warrior Square.

Essex air ambulance landed in the square at about 6pm and witnesses reported there had been a stabbing.

Southend Local policing team confirmed they were dealing with a "serious incident" and that one man had been arrested.

Police and ambulance have been contacted for comment.
