A man has been found guilty of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm with intent after a man and woman were stabbed in a frenzied attack.

Terry Margetson, 43, of no fixed address, has been jailed for life.

Margeston was told he will serve a minimum of nine years for attempted murder at Chelmsford Crown Court today.

He received six years for grievous bodily harm with intent and six months for breaching a restraining order, to run concurrently.

He was also given an indefinite restraining order.

Margetson was previously found guilty of the offences by a jury at Chelmsford Crown Court on January 10, after pleading not guilty at the same court on September 4.

At around 7.35am on July 6, Margetson forced entry to a property in Rookes Crescent, Chelmsford, and attacked a man inside.

The victim, who was in just a towel, managed to run outside with stab wounds to his shoulder, wrist and back.

Margetson then attacked a woman, aged in her 30s, inside the property and stabbed her in her neck, throat and chest, puncturing her lung.

He then fled the scene after stabbing himself in the neck before officers quickly found him in Central Park.

He was arrested and taken to hospital where he remained under supervision.

Investigating officer Dc Michelle Barber said: “Margetson attempted to murder an innocent woman in broad daylight and left her in a critical condition. He also carried out a vicious attack on a man within the property, leaving him with serious knife wounds.

"If it was not for the quick actions of the victim's neighbours, who tended to their injuries, this may have been a murder enquiry.

"Once again, thank you all for your quick-thinking and bravery. I would also like to continue to praise both victims who courageously attended court to give evidence under extremely difficult circumstances.

“Margetson is a dangerous individual and our communities are much safer with him locked in a prison cell."
