PRIMARY school children turned their attention to having fun through fitness to raise money for Sport Relief.

Pupils at Cherry Tree Primary School, in Church Road, Basildon, took part in a sponsored aerobics session in order to raise cash for the popular bi-annual fundraising event.

Every pupil and many of the staff at the school joined in with the fun, with 20, 30, and 40-minute sessions being run by experts Tasha Hyde and Lesley Davies-Eyre – who both kept going for the entire school day without stopping.

Everyone who took part donated at least £1 to the appeal, with many raising much more.

A spokesman for Cherry Tree Primary School said: “Fun, fitness and wellbeing across the school continues to go from strength to strength with staff supporting children with all aspects of their learning.

“The work of Mrs Davis-Eyre, gymnastic coach, has spurred many children on to take the sport up.

“The school have reached the national finals for gymnastics on two separate occasions this year.

“They will represent the East of England on Wednesday, May 2.”

The gymnastics squad are busy fundraising for the trips and are on the lookout for potential sponsors or people willing to give a donation, big or small.
