A popular gallery which closed in December has delighted its customers by opening for a week-long sale.

The Lynn Tait Gallery, based in Old Leigh’s High Street, closed on Christmas Eve after more than 25 years of trading following its owner Lynn Tait’s death in June.

Her family are set to reopen the gallery with a different business model but have yet to decide what that will be.

Some stock remained following the closure and the family decided to reopen for a week for a clearance sale.

Lynn Tait’s husband Andy said: “We’re in the middle of a clearance sale of stock left from the gallery which will run until Sunday.

“We will be selling the the furniture and other artefacts that are still on display by auction following the clearance sale.”

Mr Tait, 70, from Westcliff, added: “We haven’t made any decisions on the gallery yet but it will remain in the family’s ownership.

“We have no concrete ideas yet but it will be something fun.

“We will make an announcement in due course.”

Lynn Tait founded the business in the early Eighties at 59 High Street in Old Leigh.

She died following a long battle with cancer

The gallery published greeting cards for 20 years, with scenes of Southend in a bygone era.

It also operated as gift shop for 25 years.

The gallery pioneered in the publication of fine art photographic greeting cards through working with top international photographers, Charlie Waite, Philip Plisson and Art Wolfe.

Lynn Tait also assisted and promoted new publishers.

She was instrumental in launching The Ladder Club seminars that take place every year solely for the purpose of helping would be greeting card publishers get onto the first rung of the ladder.

If you are interested in the sale, the gallery will be open until Sunday from 10.3am to 4.30pm.
