The developers behind a £1billion regeneration scheme are set to meet with the residents of Purfleet.

The meeting, which will take place at St Stephen’s Church in London Road, will give members of the public the opportunity to discuss the plans that are already in their first phase.

The new development will see a new bridge over the railway line being built, as well as a medical centre.

It will also bring in a further 2,800 homes to the area.

Speaking about the public meeting, which is set to take place next Thursday afternoon, Trevor Batchelor, vice-chair of the Purfleet Community Forum, said: “There will be a meeting for local residents and those with an interest in one of the UK’s most exciting regeneration schemes.

“Come and meet the developers and learn more about the recently submitted plans for Purfleet.

“All are welcome to share your views, have your say on the emerging designs and see for the first time in detail plans for the first phase.”

The plan, which was launched in December, will also include new road connections, a children’s play area, improvements to the riverfront walkway, and new shops, cafes and restaurants.

The community forum is also proposing to change the name of the town from Purfleet to Purfleet-on-Thames to coincide with the regeneration.

Sir Tim Laurence, chair of Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited, has said the plan marks a major moment in the town’s history.

He said: “This regeneration represents a unique opportunity for us to help the local community and transform Purfleet.

“We will bring many new opportunities to the area, building on the town’s history, its waterfront location and its existing cultural expertise.

“We are confident that these plans, if approved, will not only transform Purfleet but will ensure Thurrock’s role as a key part of the Thames Gateway region.

“We aim to deliver a brighter future for everyone living and working in the Borough.”

The meeting about the Purfleet regeneration is free for all to attend. It will run from 3pm to 8pm. For more information, go to purfleet-on-thames.org/the-plans/
