A TEAM is transforming a vacant plot into a vibrant community garden.

Growing Together Shoeburyness has taken over the site in Elm Road, next to The Woodlands.

The community garden project sees adults with mental health problems and mild learning disabilities working together to improve the land.

They are building a beautiful community garden, which features polytunnels, a wildlife pond, vegetable area and log cabin.

Activities at Growing Together Shoeburyness include garden maintenance, digging, building projects and garden design and development. It also provides a Diploma in Horticulture in partnership with Southend Adult Community College.

Members benefit from the physical activity, keyworker support and friendship at the project.

Members can also participate in vocational training and other activities provided by Trust Links, including external trips.

The allotment site has recently been given a Green Flag award.

The award is the benchmark national standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the UK and it aims to ensure that there is access to quality green spaces which are appropriately managed and meet the needs of the communities they serve.

The project is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30am to 4pm.
