The husband of a former Southend woman who was found dead on a beach in Spain, has been arrested over an alleged scam to con pensioners.

Paul Muldoon, 33, also originally from Essex, walked into a police station in Marbella yesterday, and was arrested under a European Arrest warrant, according to the Sun newspaper.

Rebecca Muldoon, his wife, went missing on January 2, sparking appeals from friends and family for her to return. Her body was found on Sunday morning.

On New Year’s Day, Muldoon had been arrested at their penthouse flat over allegations of domestic abuse after neighbours allegedly heard shouting.

He was later released after his wife failed to attend a hearing to give evidence against him. Police have confirmed Muldoon was still in custody when his wife went missing.

The Mail Online says Muldoon faces extradition to England where detectives want to speak to him about a boiler room fraud allegedly involving the supposed sale of rare earth metals five years ago.

It says he and a gang of accomplices are accused of promising extraordinary returns for investments in rare metal compounds used to make LEDs and lasers.
