Tributes have been paid to a grandfather who died following a crash in Canvey.

Patrick Outram, 80, from Canvey, was hit by a Renault Clio in Long Road, near the junction of Fairlop Avenue, shortly after 4.35pm on Monday December 11.

Sadly Mr Outram died at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics.

His daughter, Kay Ross, said: “My dad was the kindest man I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.

“He truly was a gentle soul, who adored me and my three young daughters. His granddaughters were his whole world and he would have done absolutely anything for them.

“He celebrated his 80th birthday just 19 days before he died, not that anyone would have ever guessed his age.

“He easily passed for a man at least ten years younger, was fiercely independent and loved nothing more than travelling around Essex using his beloved bus pass.

“He had lived on Canvey for just over four years and loved it there.

“My mum and I, as well as his brother and sisters, and anyone who ever knew him, will miss him terribly. He undoubtedly was one of life’s gentlemen.”

A 56-year-old man from Canvey was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released under investigation.

Witnesses who have yet to speak to police or have any dash cam footage are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01245 240590 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
