A Benfleet surgery has made big improvements in patient safety their latest report from the Care Quality Commission has shown.

Rushbottom Lane surgery received good marks across the board in their latest report after their previous one in March last year said that the surgery required improvement in the safety of its services.

The latest inspection was carried out on August 30 this year.

The new CQC report said: “We saw that significant events were discussed, reviewed and action points noted at least every month.

“Learning points were shared through clinical and administrative forums as appropriate. Individual actions were taken forward by the practice manager or a lead GP with the whole practice learning disseminated through monthly ‘time to learn’ events.”

The previous report said that although surgery had logged “significant events” that had happened to patients. However, there was no evidence of the incidents being followed up by the surgery.

The surgery has now made improvements to the system and the CQC found that the surgery’s reports of patients’ safety was now much more effective.

The surgery also received good ratings for all of the categories in the report.

The report said: “There was an open and transparent approach to safety and an effective system in place for reporting and recording significant events.

“Risks to patients were assessed and well managed.”

The report added that the surgery was working well to provide support for carers.

Rushbottom Lane were also reported to be one of five surgeries involved in a new initiative with Castle Point and Rochford Clinical Commissioning Group to develop a new approach to treat patients with longer term conditions.

There are still elements that the practice need to make improvements on in patient safety, although the surgery has made a significant effort to do so.
