A biker, who is believed to be carrying weapons, crashed into a fence and has been arrested by police on suspicion of robbery.

The biker was driving on High Road, Laindon, on Thursday October 19 at 3.20pm where he crashed into a fence. He was reportedly carrying a hammer and a knife.

The rider than ran from the scene with a suspected head injury.

Essex Police said the bike was reported stolen from Bryon Court, Basildon, earlier that day. Police have informed the owner.

Officers located the suspect at 4.35pm and he was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He underwent treatment at hospital for injuries received during the collision.

A woman from Laindon, who was a witness to the incident and asked not to be named, said she was absolutely terrified about what happened.

She said: "When I was driving on High Road, he crashed up the kerb in front of me at the Lidl roundabout, smashing into a lady's front garden.

"He went head first over the handle bars and landed in the garden. I pulled up and jumped out of the car and he wasn't moving at first. I thought he was dead and it scared the life out of me.

"When I checked him he gasped for breath and was trying to sit up. The home owner and I were trying to keep him still and I was calling an ambulance as he had hurt his arm and leg, and his head was bleeding.

"But he kept saying 'no no no' we then noticed two handles poking out of a bag he was carrying. It looked like a knife and a hammer.

"When he finally got up staggering around the woman's garden, we stepped back and let him go. He clearly didn't want help from us and I wasn't going to force him once I saw what he was carrying with him.

"He then made off towards Victoria Road, towards Four Seasons."
