The annual community award in Thurrock, the 13th Thurrock Civic Awards, was launched last week by the council.
The awards ceremony will be a black-tie event hosted by Orsett-born former Paralympic European and World Champion, Danny Crates, at The Civic Hall in February 2018.
Mayor of Thurrock, Councillor Tunde Ojetola said: "We want to hear about people and organisations who have dedicated their time and efforts to their local community, but may have gone unrewarded. You now have an opportunity to help celebrate these fantastic local Thurrock heroes.
"Perhaps you know someone who works hard to protect the environment we live in, a club or sports person who’s had amazing success, a young person who has overcome extraordinary difficulties or a tireless volunteer. We want to hear their stories."
"The Thurrock Civic Awards allows them to get the recognition they deserve and we are asking for your support to help acknowledge those who have made a special contribution to our borough."
Nominations for 9 categories can be made online at thurrock.gov.uk/civicawards and are open until Monday 27 November.
