Plans have been revealed to provide a ferry service from Tilbury to the new entertainment resort near Thurrock.

Visitors to the London Resort Park  - a huge theme park set to be built on the Swanscombe Peninsula - will be able to take a river bus from Tilbury docks when it opens in in 2022.

The theme park was originally linked with Paramount films, but the deal collapsed in June.

The company developing the park, London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), announced that the company has reached an agreement with MBNA Thames Clippers to provide direct river bus services to the London Resort via the River Thames.

It is anticipated that up to 10 per cent - approximately 1.5 million of the anticipated annual visitors - will make use of MBNA Thames Clippers’ fast ferries to travel to and from the Entertainment Resort.

Details of the services will be finalised closer to the opening of the Resort, but include linking the London Resort with Tilbury and Grays to south of the river and Central London, with an opportunity for MBNA Thames Clippers to deliver a Park and Ferry service from Tilbury docks.

British company LRCH is the developer behind the plans to create a Global Entertainment Resort without parallel in the UK.

It aspires to be one of the top ten theme parks in the world with globally recognised brands, stories and characters from the world of television, film, books and games.

Humphrey Percy, CEO of LRCH, said: “This agreement with MBNA Thames Clippers is a crucial part of our strategy to make as much use of the River Thames as we can in order to provide access to the London Resort away from local roads.

"It follows our recent agreement with the Port of Tilbury and is further proof of our commitment to enhance local access routes to and from North Kent.”

Sean Collins, CEO of MBNA Thames Clippers, said: “We want to transport as many visitors to the London Resort as possible to realise the huge benefits in terms of speed, comfort and frequency of travelling by river.

"Having recently agreed to run free test trials from Gravesend to offer journeys direct to central London in cooperation with Gravesham Council, we are delighted to play a crucial role in one of the biggest Global Entertainment Resort projects in the world, where the commuter and leisure market can be served by a first class ferry service.”
