Thurrock FC have reportedly sacked one of their players following an alleged threat to throw acid at another player after a match.

Police were called to the match between Thurrock FC reserves and Sawbridgeworth after a fight broke out between players on Saturday.

Hertfordshire Police say it was reported a threat was made involving a bottle of liquid.

The Thurrock FC chairman Tommy South reportedly told YourThurrock and BBC Essex that a player had been sacked on Saturday but the player has not been named.

No arrests have been made.

Chief Inspector Gerry McDonald said: “We believe there was an inference that the bottle contained a harmful substance.

"We are currently investigating this serious allegation, and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the disturbance after the match or who may have captured it on their phones.”

Detectives have since confirmed the bottle of liquid had been tested and found to be a "water based solution".

Sawbridgeworth Town FC says it's reviewing CCTV footage of an incident.
