A man was stabbed to death outside a flat this afternoon.

Police were called to an address in Eden Green, South Ockendon, at about 1pm.

The man was taken to hospital but he died upon arrival.

A section of the road was cordoned off for forensic examination work.

Officers were at the scene for hours and spent time bagging up a blood-stained jacket and trainers.

Residents who were outside of the cordon at the time of the investigation were told they could not return to their flats.

Braintree and Witham Times:

One resident, who asked not to be named, said the incident appeared to start inside a flat and spilled out into the street.

He said: "I live on the third floor and my wife rang me saying there was a lot of commotion downstairs.

"She said someone was trying to smash their way into a flat.

"Then the commotion moved outside.

"I came home and saw a man lying on the ground covered in blood. They took him to hospital."

No arrests had been made at time of going to press and enquiries were continuing.

Anyone with information, CCTV cameras close to the scene or who was driving in the area between 12pm and 2pm and has dashcam footage is asked to call Harlow Major Investigation Team on 101.
