Grays Royal Mail Sorting Office was unexpectedly closed this morning as part of industrial action, workers claim.
Customers were queuing out the door in an effort to collect parcels that had been sent there but were unable to retrieve them as Royal Mail workers were striking.
The Thurrock Gazette understands the door was later closed and locked with a sign on the door stating that they were closed for 'unforeseen industrial action'.
The strike is believed to have lasted for three hours.
Royal Mail and the Communications Workers Union have both been contacted for comment.
