Thurrock's Louisa Johnson, who shot to fame after appearing in the X-Factor, has take part in a charity single for the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Orchestrated by Simon Cowell, an all-star line-up of more than 50 pop artists gave up their weekend to record an emotional cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water at west London's Sarm Studios.

Speaking about the single, Louisa said: "The amount of people that have actually agreed to it and gone out of there way to do it is incredible, especially how busy some of these people are.

"I feel honoured to be a part of it so to be here to today is really important."

The singer, whose hit with Clean Bandit, Tears, was in the top five last year, said the charity single was "beautiful".

"Everyone will love it. I'm really hoping that it does well."

The track is performed by the collective Artists For Grenfell, and was given its first play across UK radio stations at 8am yesterday.

More than 50 of the country's biggest artists took part including The Who's Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Robbie Williams, Stormzy, Rita Ora, Jessie J and Pixie Lott gave their time to record vocals for the fundraising track.

All of the proceeds of the single will go to The London Community Foundation, who will then distribute the proceeds to those affected.

It has been confirmed that the fire, which struck west London a week ago, has left at least 79 people missing and presumed dead.

The video premiered on Wednesday night on ITV, just before Coronation Street.

Explaining why he organised the record, Simon, claims that he felt compelled to do so saying: "I felt how everyone felt when they saw the news. I was angry, upset, thinking what the hell do you do?"

He has set up a page for donations where it is possible to contribute to the London Community Foundation.

The single is available to buy via iTunes.
