George Stokes
A CONGREGATION of approximately 400 people paid tribute to the late George Stokes.
Parishioners of St Thomas of Canterbury RC Church, Grays and St Peter’s RC Church, Stifford Clays attended a Requiem Mass for the late Monsignor George Stokes.
He was born in Cape Town, South Africa, but came to England and settled in Grays when he was a boy and he was very proud of his roots.
He was devoted to education and in 1991 was appointed to the post of Diocesan Director of Education.
