A CHARITY has been given a £300 boost by a drama group.

The Cast and Crew Theatre Workshop, which is based on Canvey, presented a cheque to Southend-based cardiac support charity Take Heart after collecting the funds at their last production, Stags and Hens.

This brings the amount the group has raised for charity to £12,387 since 2011.

Sarah Lepley who directed the play said: "I wanted to make sure a local cardiac support charity would benefit from the proceeds of the show’s collection in honour and memory of my own father who passed away some years back of a heart condition."

Paul Halley, chairman of Take Heart thanked the group for the generous donation and added: "It will be put to good use soon.

"We are at present purchasing various pieces of equipment for the Cardiac Rehab and Cardiac Day stay departments at Southend University Hospital.

"In this current year we are expecting to spend in the region of £10,000.

"This is only made possible with donations from groups such as yours, and the community of Canvey for which we are grateful."

The Canvey drama group are currently working on their next production, Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward which is an improbable comedy and will be performed on the last weekend in July.
