A FURIOUS mum told how her ten-year-old daughter was left lying on the pavement after being knocked down by a hit-and-run biker.

Abigail Cottie, a pupil at Ryedene Primary School, in Clover Way, Vange, suffered a badly bruised shoulder, back and knees. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Abigail was sent flying by a teenager riding a dirtbike on the pavement just yards from her home in Bellfields, Vange.

Mum-of-five Ann Cottie, 35, said she now fears for the safety of her other children as the youth has not been caught.

The incident happened at about 5pm on Wednesday as Abigail was heading to the shops with her big sister Cydney, 16, and baby brother Henry, two.

Miss Cottie said the damage could have been worse if the teen had hit brothers Harry, eight, or Keegan, seven.

She said: “They were walking down the path and he has headed straight for them. He could have swerved onto the grass but he didn’t

“My daughter managed to get the baby and the buggy out of the way but then he’s hit my ten-year-old daughter.

“He just looked back and drove off. I am furious.

“I called an ambulance and they came and they took her to hospital to be checked out. She was screaming and crying but I think she was more shocked than anything.”

Miss Cottie said bikers are a common sight on the estate.

She hit out at Essex Police after officers failed to turn up at her door until 12.30pm the following day.

She said: “We called them at the same time as the ambulance and no-one came. For all they knew she could have died.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of an RTC in Basildon on Wednesday, March 15.

“A motorbike had been in collision with a 10-year-old girl in Bellfield shortly before 5.30pm

“The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance and suffered leg injuries which are not believed to be serious.”

Anyone with information can call Basildon police station on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
