POLICE and ambulances were called to a Wickford street after a 16th birthday party descended into a brawl.

Chaos erupted in Haslemere Road at about 10pm on Friday when a fight broke out between those attending a house party, it is believed.

One car was damaged and when police and ambulances turned up, a group of teenagers ran off.

There were also shards of broken glass left in the road.

Sarah Keevil, 30, who lives along the road, said she saw three teenage girls, one of whom was crying, outside her house at about 10.30pm.

Mrs Keevil, who runs the Crimewatch Wickford Facebook page, said: “I didn’t hear anything but I saw that somebody posted on the Facebook page about the noise going on in Haslemere Road.

“I opened the front door to have a look and I saw there were three girls across the road. I could hear one of them crying.

“I went over to make sure they were ok and they said there was a bit of pushing and shoving into a car and a fight broke out.

“They were waiting for a lift.

“I offered for them to come and wait inside my house but they said no.

“They were really sweet and really apologetic.

“I hope nobody was seriously injured.”

PC Sam Wayland, from Basildon’s community policing team, tweeted at the time of the incident asking for people to turn in those responsible.

She said: “Large fight in Wickford - 16th party gone wrong.

“Damage caused to neighbouring properties, if anyone knows those responsible let us know!

“I believe a few people were injured but they all ran from us and ambulance.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a large group of people at an address in Haslemere Road, Wickford at around 10.05pm on Friday.

“As officers attended the group dispersed.

“One vehicle had been damaged.

“Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Essex Police quoting incident 1062 of 17/02 on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously.”
