TABLE tennis player Ben Porter from St John’s Primary School, in Danbury took top honours at the annual Jack Petchey Essex Regional Singles competition, in partnership with Table Tennis England.

It was held at Batts Table Tennis Club in Harlow on Friday January 20.

The event bought together 52 players from 18 schools across Essex. All were playing for a chance to compete in the Jack Petchey London and Essex Schools Singles Finals being held on Saturday June 10 at the University of East London.

All events were run as a round robin competition. In the Boys U11 category Ben Porter, age 10, took victory over Sam Riley from Earls Hall Primary School, Southend winning 8-11 11-6 11-5.

The Jack Petchey Schools’ Table Tennis programme is aimed at increasing participation and awareness of table tennis in schools and youth clubs in London and Essex.
