Emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushed to the aid of a man who was found convulsing in a friend's flat in Warrior Square, Southend.

Brett Lees, 44, who is currently homeless suffers from kidney disease and friends became worried when they had not heard from him this morning (Friday December 2).

They discovered Brett was having a seizure in the hallway of a friend's home where he was staying and smashed in the door to get to him.

His sister Carly, 39, who is also currently homeless said: "His mates went round to where he was staying and saw through the letterbox that he was having a seizure so they kicked the door in and called the ambulance.

"He's been having these seizures for a couple of months now but the doctors don't know what's causing it.

"They had to call the air ambulance and the doctor because the only way they could stop his seizure was by sedating him and taking over his breathing. Last time this happened he was in a coma for three days."

The fire service, who also responded to the incident, helped protect Brett's privacy by erecting a screen to shield him while he was treated.

Carly added: "I think he's in good hands. The doctor has said he will be ok. I just hope they can figure out what's causing this.

"They thought it was his dialysis but now they're not sure. He had dialysis treatment a few days a go and they sent him home so we thought he was ok."

Brett was taken to hospital for further treatment.
