BASILDON’S Max Whitlock has joined the rest of Team GB to parade through the streets of both Manchester and London.

Whitlock - who trains at the South Essex Gymnastics Club in Basildon - won two gold medals and a bronze at the Rio Olympics in the summer.

And, alongside a number of other medalists, Whitlock received a hero’s reception as the British public showed their delight at the success.

More than 150,000 people braved the rain in Manchester on Monday to line the parade route sporting gold hats and waving flags while London was also packed out for a second parade yesterday.

Whitlock memorably won gold on both the floor and pommel horse in Brazil having previously finished third in the all-around final.

Former Seevic College student Emily Scott was also in the parade in Manchester after lining up for Team GB’s sevens side in Rio.

Team GB set an Olympic record in Rio 2016 by winning 67 medals - two more than they managed at London 2012.

The Paralympians also beat their previous performance with 147 medals - 27 more than four years ago.
