A VAN driver who died following a crash on the A13 on Monday has been named by police as 35-year-old Karl Fox of Wills Hill in Stanford-le-Hope.

The motorist died after crashing into a stationary lorry. 

Police were called to a reports of a crash on the Southend-bound carriageway of the A13 at the junction of Dock Approach Road in Tilbury at about 10.20pm on September 19. 

The initial incident involved an Audi TT, a Fiat 500 and a stationary lorry.

The ambulance and fire services were also called to the scene.

The accident caused a tailback of traffic for approximately a mile.

A Ford Transit van was driving towards the tailback and was in collision with a stationary lorry at about 11.50pm.

Mr Fox was driving the van and died at the scene.

The Southend-bound side of the A13 was closed between the A1012 roundabout and the A1089 roundabout while the scene was cleared and forensic examinations were carried out.

It reopened at about 7.10am on Tuesday, September 20.
