Thurrock Council have removed a shelter in Aveley Recreation Park known as 'a hub of anti-social behaviour.’ The environment team said they took action following a spate of complaints about ‘misuse’ of the shelter along with litter and shattered glass in the vicinity.

Council engineers razed the shelter to the ground using an array of power tools on Thursday.

Portfolio Holder for Environment, Councillor Pauline Tolson said it was “not fair” for the whole community to “have to put up with eyesores and excessive litter” in one area.

She said: "The council do not want to take away facilities provided with good intentions.”

"But when you have small groups of people destroying them, misusing them and becoming a hub for anti-social behaviour, we have to look at the wider picture.

She added: “We are reviewing other facilities within the park with the view to making it much more attractive and friendly for all users.
