POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was hit by a van on a zebra crossing.

An 89-year-old man, from Leigh, area suffered serious pelvic injuries and was taken to Southend Hospital.

He was using the zebra crossing in Eastwood Boulevard near Manchester Drive at around 9.50am on July 28 when he was hit by a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

The driver of the van, a man aged in his 30s and from Salford in Lancashire, was reported for careless driving.

Officers are continuing with their enquiries and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision.
