A Thurrock Council team have won high praise for their community work at an annual achievement awards ceremony in London.
Eleven Thurrock Local Area Coordinators were “highly commended” at the prize-giving after ‘narrowly missing’ winning the Excellence in Community Engagement Award.
The Municipal Journal Achievement Awards was held at the Hilton Hotel in London on June 16.
Thurrock Council’s group of local area co-ordinators work to assist residents aged 18 and over, many of whom are elderly, to find ‘holistic solutions’ to supporting them towards having a good life.
Councillor Sue Little, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, said their work was "vital" to the borough.
Mrs Little said: “To be highly commended in this area – amongst a group of 11 nominated councils and local authority services – is a fantastic achievement for our hard-working, dedicated staff.”
“The team works tirelessly to support the needs of the community, at times dealing with extremely complex cases and challenging circumstances."
In 2015 the LAC team of 11 coordinators supported 558 individuals throughout Thurrock, and have supported 385 people so far in 2016.
