TALENTED students came together to complete a performance marking the end of their course at college.

A group of students with learning difficulties or with disabilities from Seevic College’s “Personalised Pathways programme” to dance and sing at the Thundersley college’s theatre on Thursday.

John Revill, the college’s vice principal paid tribute to students who completed the five-day foundation course and highlighted the role it plays in their education.

He said: “This has been one of the best evenings I’ve had in a long time.

“The pathway is not about expanding the college but expanding opportunities for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

“It is allowing them to develop and progress on to either employment, further education, independent living or simply become more engaged in the local community.

“Essentially, the college is preparing them for adulthood and improving their life chances.

“You all did an amazing job; it was incredible. Well done.”

The show saw students dance the Whip Nae Nae and sign to Lionel Richie’s “Dancing on the Ceiling.”

Anna Kennedy OBE, who has set up schools to provide an improved education and other facilities for children affected by Asperger Syndrome and autism, joined the students to celebrate.

She said: “There was a buzz as soon as I walked through the doors of the theatre. The performers were so excited and you could clearly see they loved the feedback from the audience.

“During the last performance one of the students sang Dancing on the Ceiling and I was pulled on stage to dance with the performers.

“Everyone was so happy and proud, as was I, on this special night.”

Providing up to a five-day provision for learners, Seevic’s Personalised Pathways programme is designed for young people who would benefit from learning within a supported environment.

It aims to develop independent living skills, preparation for adulthood and develop basic skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT.
