Thurrock Marching Brass marched through Ockendon in honour of Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday on June 12.

The rain stopped long enough to allow the band to march from Deveron Gardens to outside the Ockendon Centre in South Ockendon where a local crowd was gathered.

Marching brass members were joined by the “amazing” High Voltage Big Band to play sets that celebrated “the important milestone in the British monarch’s history.”

Thurrock Marching Brass’ Corps Director Jay Lindner said many local youngsters were involved and it was a “great honour” for the Marching Brass young members to take part.

Mr Lindner said: “We all take great pride in performing locally within the borough, and to help celebrate the prestigious occasion of the Queen’s 90th birthday we were all so excited to take part.

“The good old British weather did it’s best to dampen what was a brilliant day but there was no chance of that happening.

“The organisers certainly had their challenges but they managed them brilliantly. All our members joined in with face painting and other activities during the day with what I thought was an excellent march.”
