A DISTURBANCE, which police believe was one man being assaulted in Chelmsford last night (June 11), has ignited an appeal for witnesses.

It is believed that a man may have been assaulted by a small group of other men, near the athletics ground in Salerno Way, at 11.10pm.

Detective inspector Rob Kirby, who is leading the investigation, said: "My officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or if you were or know the people involved. This could have been an argument between friends that got out of hand and we would like to get to the bottom of what happened.”

According to a statement issued by Essex Police, it is thought the men may have then got into a small dark car - possibly either a Peugeot or Vauxhall Corsa style vehicle.

The vehicle left the area, but shortly afterwards one of the men was seen to get out of the car after being involved in another argument.

He is described as white, of slim build, tall and with fair hair.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact Chelmsford CID on Essex Police 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
