THERE will be a free lunchtime recital at the Civic Centre next Wednesday June 8 when professional musicians Mick Foster and Yeu-Meng Chan present a 45 minute programme of music for saxophone and piano.

Mick Foster studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and has since worked extensively in the fields of jazz, commercial and classical music as a saxophonist, clarinettist and composer.

He has played and recorded with a wide range of musicians including Stan Sulzmann, Michael Garrick, The London Jazz Orchestra, Issie Barratt, La Banda Europa, Digby Fairweather and the Back To Basie Orchestra.

He has also worked with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, The London Philharmonic Orchestra and English National Opera, as well appearing on many film and TV soundtracks. Yeu-Meng Chan was awarded a scholarship to read Music at Oxford University followed by another scholarship to study postgraduate piano at the Royal Academy of Music.

Whilst at the RAM she also received substantial bursaries from both the Academy and the Countess of Munster Trust.

Yeu-Meng is a much sought after accompanist and plays for students at Trinity College, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music as well as St Martin-in-the-Fields, The Barbican Centre, the Royal Festival Hall, Southwark Cathedral and Wimborne Minster. She has also appeared at many major music festivals including Hastings, Chichester and Abbotsbury.

The programme will include music by Bach and Schumann, and Mick Foster’s own set of dances for saxophone and piano and will start at 12.15pm.

The concert is free to attend, with a retiring collection for the artists.
